HOMEKEY | MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA

In 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom launched the Homekey program, a statewide program to rapidly expand housing for unhoused individuals. The City of Mountain View in partnership with LifeMoves, a supportive housing nonprofit, was awarded funding as part of this program to build an interim housing community with intensive case management and support services designed to return people to stability.

LifeMoves and Sares Regis Group together envisioned a 120-bed campus with sleeping accommodations, community bathrooms and showers, community dining facilities, and support services.

In order to meet the aggressive timeline that the funding grant required, offsite construction was determined to be the best approach. With our expertise in transforming containers into highly sophisticated buildings, UrbanBloc was hired to provide two bathroom and shower buildings, each equipped with four bathrooms and three showers, a 20’ staff bathroom, a 20’ laundry building, and a suite of three food service buildings to provide meals for the residents and staff. The seven buildings were constructed from converted shipping containers in four months in our factory in San Leandro and arrived at the Mountain View site fully permitted, tested, and approved by the state of California.
